Our Mission

Renee Johnson is a mother, a clinical mental health counselor, and a registered play therapist. Her heart beats for children and her life’s work has focused on helping children, their parents, and professional helpers that work with children. It is our hope that Kinder Connection is a place where adults find support, encouragement, information, and resources to feel confident and capable in their role as a parent or professional helper. After all, raising children work is important work, and we all need help to do it as best we can.

Mission Statement

Childhood development is as complex as each child is, filled with wonder, magic, and difficulties. Research is constantly developing our ever-expanding understanding of childhood, which in turn evolves the way we understand and think about children, how we parent them, how we interact with them, and how we work with them. At Kinder Connection, you can learn techniques and information that are based on the unique perspective that children are people, who crave and deserve autonomy, respect, kindness, and compassion. Just as adults desire all of those things, children work fiercely to achieve them and thrive when they receive them.

Traditional parenting methods often work against this perspective, with the primary goal being obedience and respect towards the adult, above all else. In a society embedded with the belief that an obedient child is a well-parented child, it can be difficult to find support, information, and resources that incorporate what the latest research has proven- children need more, want more, and will work to obtain more autonomy, respect, connection, and love. Kinder Connection works with this research and brings it to others in a way that is tangible, understandable, and implementable.

Raising children is important, difficult work, but you are not alone in your journey. We hope that here, you’ll find hope. Hope that you can create a connection with your child that fuels optimal development, a relationship with them filled with mutual love and respect, and that results in you having more resources and support to feel empowered in your role as a parent or professional helper. You deserve it. Your child deserves it. Kinder Connection will help you get there.
